Importance of Quranic Education
Learning to read and recite the Holy Quran in the way of the Prophet (PBUH) is very important in Islam. He (PBUH) himself established the rules of recitation and encouraged his followers to learn the Quran by heart so that it is put to memory. Indeed, it is the most commonly memorized and recited Book all over the globe.
In every Muslim’s home, this obligation should be illustrated as a highly important one and the daily routine should include the recitation of the Qur’an.
What does HIFZ mean?
Ḥifdh/Ḥifz: The Linguistic Meaning of Ḥifdh is preservation, care, guardianship, custody, memory, learning by heart / from memory. The Quran Memorization is to learn every word of it by heart.
Ḥāfiẓ (Arabic: حافظ, Romanized: Ḥāfiz, pl. Ḥuffāẓ: حُفَّاظ), literally meaning “guardian” or “memorizer”, depending on the context.
Ḥāfiẓ is a term used by Muslims for someone who has completely memorized the Quran. Ḥāfiẓah حافظة is the female equivalent.
A person who has memorized the complete Quran is referred to as a ‘Ḥāfiẓ -Ul-Quran’.
Why learn Quran…?
All over the world, every true Muslim strives to learn the Quran either by help from parents, siblings or teachers. From day one a Muslim is taught the importance of each and every letter of this Divine Book with the intention of gaining knowledge and peace of mind in order to live a secure, serene and righteous life.
The Virtue of Memorizing Quran
Memorizing the Quran is different from memorizing any other piece of text. Quran Memorization in its entirety is a great struggle and effort, which is why a lot of rewards and virtues have been kept in it for Hafiz.
Whoever memorizes the Quran and acts upon it holds a high position in the eyes of Allah almighty and His last Messenger (S.A.W). A Hafiz has eminent privileges over other Muslims in this life, which have been verified in Quran and Hadith.
Hafiz gets to lead the prayer and he is preferred for leadership if he is capable of bearing it. Moreover, the privileges and rewards for a Hafiz continue in the afterlife as well.
In the hereafter, He will be rewarded and honored greatly by Allah Karim, so that he will rise in status in Paradise to a level commensurate with what he memorized of the Quran. His status would be proportionate with the last āyat he memorized. He would be accompanying the angels. A Hafiz would wear a crown and garment of honor. Lastly, the Quran will represent him in front of Allah almighty.
